Principal's Message

Assemblies

On January 22nd and 23rd we held assemblies to recognize the students who achieved Principal’s List or Honour Roll standing in first term. I am pleased and very impressed with the number of students who excelled academically in first term. We encourage you to remain focused for the remainder of the school year so you may continue to excel. We are now at the mid-point of Term 2. If students are experiencing difficulty in a class, you can expect to receive an interim report. Please contact your child’s teacher at the school if you have questions or concerns. At our assemblies, students were asked to stand if they were involved in athletics, dance, theatre, school newspaper, or clubs. The level of involvement in extra-curricular activities is astounding. We are fortunate to have staff members who volunteer their time to offer a wide range of activities for students.

Mid-Town Show Down

January 16th to the 18th, Hamber hosted the “Mid-Town Show Down” basketball tournament. Our PE Leadership students were instrumental in planning and organizing the event. The teams certainly appreciated the enthusiastic support of the spectators. Hamber’s Senior Girls Basketball team and Senior Boys team won the tournament.

Dance

Some of you may have heard about the ‘flash mob’ that took place at the Giants hockey game on January 20th. Hamber dance students, along with hundreds of other students from Greater Vancouver, participated in this event to raise awareness about bullying and encourage acceptance. In all, there were nearly 2000 participants. It was an impressive spectacle. We are thankful for the incredible organizational skills of our dance teacher, Ms. James, who played an instrumental role in planning this event. To see the flash mob, please visit here.

Donations to the School

Thank you to all parents who have responded to the appeal from PAC to contribute to the school. We have raised almost $5000 which will be used to enrich school programs and activities. We greatly appreciate your support. If you still wish to make a contribution, please go to the PAC website. The graduating class of 1967 has donated almost $500 to our school library. These funds will be used to support the upgrades we are putting in place. We thank the graduates of 1967 for their thoughtful donation.
